Today is the day that I've mentioned in my journal that we were going to break ground. I guess I've been using the wrong terminology. Now that the wedding is over, today the focus on the actual house begins. Even though we've already put up our fence, and the well is in (more on that in a bit), to me, that wasn't our HOUSE. But today we start the focus on the house itself. My husband is at the property right now. I'll update as we move forward on each phase. I know my husband has to do a little more with the well since we didn't have our well men do the pump house, so we will pour a slab, anchor the storage tank, and then protect it from freezing until we build the pump house. Those are things he will be doing this week (except the building of the pump house). He is going to be putting up the batter boards (which I might have spelled wrong). And pinning down his dirt guy. So our "breaking ground" today will be some boards pound into the ground. ;-) But I'm glad we're starting! We'll see what else we accomplish this week.
I've had my eye on a light online for the entry that went on sale so I ordered it. It arrived and looked NOTHING like the picture. I thought for just a moment about keeping it to avoid the hassle of sending it back but I just don't like it very much and so I'd rather have something I really like rather than start doing the "settle" dance and end up with all sorts of stuff in our new house that we don't quite like (Note on 8/31/07 - I still have it because I thought I'd use it after all but I still don't know for sure. If I don't, I'll sell it on eBay.).
About the well... We called about it on 10/2, when I posted last, to see what was going on. They were just finishing up and were finished on 10/3. They checked it again on 10/14 to make sure that all was fine so that chapter is closed except for our part. The difference in cost for the casing, concrete, extra labor, etc. was a little over $2200 so that was a relief to me. I was worrying that is was going to be a lot more. I'm so glad it wasn't.
Until more progress is made....
Written later on 10/16/2006 - Here are a couple pics of the batter board progress and one pic of our well.
